Neighbourly love as an organic function in the beings is the redeeming light in the darkness
1807. Now, what can be the light in this darkness? It is thus a fact that neither ecclesiastical Christianity nor modern materialistic science can be this light. Neither of them have any connection with the realities that can be the light in mankind's present darkness. The doomsday, the Armageddon that was to mark the "last days", that is to say the end of the "old Earth" and the "old heaven" in favour of the creation of a "new heaven" and a "new Earth" wherein dwelleth righteousness, is upon us. This should not of course be taken to mean that a world catastrophe resulting in the destruction of the Earth will occur. No, on the contrary, it means that the old world morality, the animal view of life and the corresponding animal distribution of the world's material resources based on it is degenerating and breaking up. These traditional phenomena will perish in favour of a new and absolutely just perception of the world through the "holy spirit" or spiritual science. This new science and its application in practical, physical and mental behaviour constitute the "new heaven" and the "new Earth" respectively. Terrestrial mankind is thus at the parting of the ways prophesised by all its greatest sages, prophets and world redeemers. The transformation of the animal into the perfect human being is imminent. The domain of neighbourly love, where everyone lives for everyone else, is in the process of occupying and defeating terrestrial mankind's animal psyche, where everyone is at war with everyone else. The "new Earth" will express itself through a new administration of the world's material resources to the equal advantage of everyone, while the "new heaven" is a new view of the world borne by a new, perfect sympathetic faculty, which promotes neighbourly love. This promotion of neighbourly love will not be a mere act of will but an inevitable organic function in the same way as the animal urge to mate or the promotion of the reproduction and survival of the species. The light that will be able to dispel the present terrestrial human darkness and spread its flood of rays or mental warmth out over the world can consist no longer of mere moral sermons and dictated precepts about being in a certain way. It must be an organic function that causes the beings to love their neighbour in the same way as organic functions today cause them to eat and drink, cause them to seek fresh air and light in order to ensure their continued existence.
