1816. The road to the kingdom of heaven is thus, as previously mentioned, not a question of murderous technology and ingeniousness with regard to destroying culture, regardless of whether it be defence or attack. It can, on the contrary, be manifested only through setting the development of one's own sympathetic faculties in the direction of a culminating display of humaneness or neighbourly love. As we know, these sympathetic faculties begin as the material or physical process of reproduction and, at the peak of this process, are manifested as a certain limited form of sympathy for the opposite sex. This sympathy is manifested as a mobilised process in the form of "amorous love". Amorous love is thus, like hunger and thirst, an organic manifestation and, like these two phenomena, creates a desire for satisfaction. Indeed, this is, so to speak, the desire above all desires. It is the desire for life itself. When this desire appears at its culmination, that is, as amorous love, it constitutes a double desire. We can express this double desire as "desire A" and "desire B".
