1820. "Unrequited love" is thus actually not a kind of unhappy love, since love can never be unhappy. Love never seeks its own, and can never disappoint its source. "Unrequited love" is, by contrast, only an unsatisfied hunger for passionate love or copulation. And the antipathy that this gives rise to is analogous to the antipathy, indignation, hatred or anger that other forms of unsatisfied hunger or other unmet vital needs give rise to towards the person or people who are to blame for one's misery. They are a result of the drive for self-preservation itself. They are details in the struggle for life. Such results are the best proof that amorous love is not real love, since the latter mental state is completely devoid of demands for its own existence. It is not determined by others having to feel the same sympathy or reciprocated love. It is for this reason that this state of consciousness is the only, and thereby the greatest, factor of life in the universe. The possession or overshadowing of the being by this wave of mental rays is therefore the only thing that can bring war or the mental darkness of existence to an end. Love is in itself the eternal, lasting peace that terrestrial mankind is now increasingly hungering and thirsting for and feels as a vital necessity.
