1824. Within the domain of terrestrial human beings the marital state is not as true and genuine as it is among the above-mentioned beings. We have seen that the mental forces in the marriage, that is, those that make mating and life together so perfect between the paired animals, are not present to nearly as great an extent in the terrestrial human being. Here there is instability and a lack of a feeling of responsibility on a large scale, a running away from one's obligations to such an extent that the offspring are very largely left in the lurch by their parents, and would be completely at the mercy of an unhappy fate if authorities, governments and judicial systems did not exist. These authorities have long since made laws that must be observed by those entering into matrimony. These legal measures determine that married couples have to have a marriage certificate in order to have their mating state declared valid and to make the husband and wife responsible for the consequences of this intimate connection. They determine that parents must of course provide for their children, and that the husband and wife cannot lightly dissolve their marriage on a whim and without obligations. The mere fact that legal force is necessary or simply indispensable to force terrestrial human beings to fulfil the marital obligations that they have taken upon themselves shows the extent to which marriage has degenerated; indeed, it is no longer something that is based on such strong mental forces as before. Indeed, in some terrestrial human beings one can even clearly see that their marriage is merely a repetition of something that is more fundamental or stable among the higher animals. It is a re-experiencing of something that in a long lost past was the very alpha and omega of life for the beings. No other interest or sphere of life experience existed for these beings than the process of mating and the protection of offspring. At this stage terrestrial human beings were still only animals in their purest form.
