1837. But even though the heavenly light is low in the mental sky in the midwinter of the spiral cycle, it is, however, there and promises the coming of a new epoch of light. It heralds the advance of spring followed by summer and the culmination of life, light and warmth. We see that, in the great darkness where the light and warmth of life is limited and the deadly cold of night and winter is thereby culminating, God has, however, let so much of the heavenly fire or divine spirit remain that life, even in the densest darkness in existence, cannot die or perish completely and thereby be obliterated. But this ray of light from heaven, albeit reduced, which shines in the darkness in the form of the urge to mate, guarantees the existence of life and thereby the immortality of the living beings. The sexual play of the male being and female being, their act of copulation, the man and woman's mutual embrace, their surrendering of themselves to one another's mutual desire and sympathy and their resulting melting together to become "one flesh" is the eternal light of the source of life in the sphere of darkness; it is God's warming closeness in the middle of the cosmic winter's region of ice; it is a spark of love in the middle of the domain of hatred; it is God's eternal unvanquished spirit in the kingdom of the demons; it is the beating of God's own innermost pulse through the heart of the animal kingdom. Through the pole constellation of man and woman, the male beings and the female beings, the foundation on which God can model the human being in his image after his likeness comes into existence.
