1861. "Unrequited love", which is the same as being unhappily in love, thus constitutes one of the great, unpleasant afflictions that overshadow great parts of the domain of the feminine man and the masculine woman. Since the feminine man's feminine pole is the greatest regulatory factor in his psyche, and thereby in his emotional make-up, he is inevitably drawn towards a being in whom the masculine pole in a normal masculine organism dominates to a marked extent. Such a being is the ideal object of the feminine man's amorous love. But he has no chance of having his love reciprocated by him. The normal masculine being has no ability whatsoever to fall in love with his own sex, and especially not with the feminine man, who, with his abnormal traits, appeals to his contempt, anger and hatred. If such a naturally robust man all the same takes up with a feminine man who is in love with him, it is absolutely not because he reciprocates the feminine man's love but is as a rule for financial gain or in order to exploit the love-struck feminine man financially. It is downright prostitution. The masculine man, who in this case belongs, if anything, to the pimp type, is of course a being that has in fact a strong aversion towards the relationship, but, because of the prospect of profit or material gain, he ingratiates himself with the lovestruck feminine man who is interested in him. And the feminine man then as a rule ends up experiencing not merely unrequited love but being sometimes stripped of all his money. The fear of scandal and of being reported to the police have made him an easy prey or victim of blackmail. And the ensuing mental anguish and inferiority complexes can sometimes cause the man who is unhappily in love to commit suicide. Through life's own repercussions and its curbing of the being's infringement of the laws of Nature, this feminine man's derailed desire is dampened again in coming lives and a normal process of evolution is set in motion. The masculine pole can begin to work again and be completely lived out, and the normal evolution of the poles can get back on the right course.
