Inauthentic lives together or marriages
1862. That the same sexual derailment also occurs in principle when a woman seduces a minor of her own sex is naturally a matter of course. This results in unrequited love and, to a similar extent, other related unpleasantnesses. One cannot, however, completely rule out that there can also be cases in which such a life together can give a certain kind of pleasure for a while. This can occur in cases where the object of their amorous love is sexually not too much the opposite or is not a typical representative of their own sex, but to a certain extent can also feel attracted to or feel pleasure in being doted on by the other, in other words, is a being that also, albeit unconsciously, is now already quite a way into the development of the opposite pole. Thus we see here a life together, a kind of inauthentic marriage between such beings, but their life together can never be expressive of perfect, natural happiness. The beings are too similar in structure. Since it is their opposite pole that is the basis for their life together, it will require that the object of a being's tendency to fall in love or its over-proportioned sympathy is a being of its own sex. But since this sex in its completely normal state feels more or less antipathy towards its own sex or in the worst case hates them, and particularly, as previously mentioned, when it manifests itself abnormally and has the opposite sex's tendencies, the feminine man, for instance, has no chance of attaining a life together with such a masculine being, who would otherwise be the perfect object of his amorous love. He must resign himself and cast his sympathy or affections on the men who are certainly masculine and unconscious of their opposite pole but not more so than that they nevertheless feel a certain pleasure in being the object of another man's attention and sympathy, and therefore do not have anything against becoming joined to this man in an intimate life together, that is, in a kind of inauthentic marriage. But it is obvious that a lovestruck, feminine man cannot in the long run be an ideal object for such a being's amorous love since he, that is the masculine partner, can in fact still imagine having only a woman as his ideal partner in a sexual living together and tends towards the inauthentic life together only because of an as-yet very weak and unconscious sexual tendency arising from the beginnings of the normal development of the opposite pole, if it is not for outer, material gain. Many an impoverished, but normal, young man on this step is easy prey for a wealthy, feminine man who can support him and give him abundant access to material goods. He then goes along with an inauthentic, sexual life together, but, behind his outer appearance, he still dreams of a woman as his sexual ideal, just as he also imagines a woman during the artificial intimate act in his life together with a feminine man. And if he does not belong to this type, but has the ability to see men as the ideal object of his sexual dream, he is too much of the same kind as the feminine man and cannot then be an ideal sexual object for this exaggeratedly feminine being who is attracted only to masculine beings; indeed, he even feels disgust, and thereby antipathy, for all other fellow beings that show traces of femininity. Women are thus not in favour with these beings, even if one perhaps cannot go as far as to say that they are women-haters.
As we have seen here, these inauthentic marriages or sexual lives together will be maintained either by a kind of prostitution, a kind of material gain or advantage for the masculine partner and unrequited love for the feminine partner, or they are based on resignation and the resulting motto: "Something is better than nothing". Certain feminine men would prefer living together with a fairly tolerable partner of their own kind to a life together with a very masculine man because of the risk this would entail of all kinds of financial exploitation, blackmail and far too great a lack of sympathy or reciprocated love from him. There is thus no absolute happiness whatsoever to be found in the inauthentic marriages or forms of life together portrayed here.
