1877. It is naturally a matter of course that human being H is also a representative of the "zone of unhappy marriages", in which any sympathy that lies outside marriage and family life will always be at the expense of an absolutely "normal" marriage. But owing to the fact that human being H is a being that has gone through a series of incarnations with a lot of suffering, and that the evolution of its poles is advanced (hence the great capacity for compassion or the beginnings of neighbourly love that more or less characterises this being), it is very reticent about making other beings unhappy. If the man and the woman in a marriage are human beings H, such a marriage can even at best be very happy, since they are both so loving that they do not have the heart to hurt one another, and are both of such a high intellectual standard that they can cultivate common cultural spheres of interest and make their life together exceptionally rich and useful to one another and thereby to those around them, even if their sexual attraction to one another is not at all overwhelmingly strong or is perhaps simply completely absent. But it is not common that a marriage consists precisely of two human beings H. In most cases, human beings H marry a being from the other sexual categories or types. Since the beings from these groups can as yet live on or find happiness to a marked extent only by having the right to own their spouse, at the same time as they represent a greater or lesser spiritual primitivity, this marriage will sooner or later result in unhappiness. For human being H, which in certain cases does not have the heart to defend itself to any great extent and cannot stand discord, it means a resignation and compliance that can almost turn the same being into a slave of the tyranny of such a primitive spouse. In other cases a still dominating unhappy love for the spouse can be the cause of hopeless resignation and tolerance of the tyranny. Through marriages of this kind human being H experiences its ineptitude or incipient unfitness for marriage. And its strong ability to feel sympathy or neighbourly love and the ensuing hunger to give caresses and to receive them are thereby guided onto the new courses and paths that lead directly to the great birth.
