1879. With regard to the being's talent for marriage, it is, like all other tendencies of consciousness, subject to the law of repetition. When a human being has reached the degeneration of marriage or its complete mastery, that is to say the being's complete liberation from the demands or desires of marriage in its present adulthood, then this mastery will be relived in the being's next life as its last repetitions immediately before the onset of adulthood, that is to say at the end of its twenties. But during the years before this repetition of its mastery of marriage, the being thus repeats the part of its marital fate that predates its last incarnation. And the further we thereby go back in the row of the being's previous lives or incarnations, the more maritally minded the being was. This is in turn reflected in its repetitions in its present life, so that in this life the being is more maritally minded the younger it is. This is why a being that is eighteen years of age can be passionately in love and believes that the reciprocated love of the other party is something that is eternally unwavering, a love that will last for ever and so on, only to experience, as the years pass, that this love simply crumbles away and quickly dies. After merely four or five years of married life, marriage fills the being with loathing. Indeed, this is the case even in such situations where the other party's reciprocation has not stopped, and where this other party has not been unfaithful or neglected the marriage. When there are thus no outer grounds for the breakdown of the marriage, one can therefore look for the cause only in the circumstance that the married life for one of the parties has been based exclusively on a repetition of a long since dying talent for marriage. If human being H can also get into marital conflicts, it is thus to a great extent due to the fact that the repetition of marriage comes only at the youth stage where it overshadows or controls the being's entire exercise of will as long as it lasts. In a further advanced human being the repetition of marriage comes as early as in childhood and has then no particular force to develop sexual, marital desires or demands. And the being is thus almost entirely free of marriage, the tendency to fall in love and the desire for sexual ownership when it arrives at the age at which the normal marital tendencies and demands otherwise begin to stir in the individual's psyche. In the initiated or cosmically born being, the repetition of marriage has slipped so far back that this being has none of its symptoms or tendencies in its present life.
