1885. Based on the harmonious state of its poles and the fact that this state is under the control of its will, human being I masters the talents of its opposite pole to the same extent as it masters the talents that are borne by its ordinary pole. This incipient sexual sovereignty is due to the fact that the last remnant of the veil that has hitherto kept the functions of the opposite pole away from the being's waking day-consciousness throughout its sphere of sexual pole transformation is now disintegrating in a natural way. But the being is now spiritually so mature and so strong with regard to natural, humane morality that the waking, day-conscious, sexual feeling arising from the opposite pole and resulting from this disintegration is no longer dangerous. It can never lead human being I into derailment. It has passed the danger zone or epoch of derailments. On the contrary, the disintegration of this mental veil or covering results in beings of the human-being-I type experiencing the "great birth" or the organic "great initiation". Here in Livets Bog we will therefore call this veil or covering, this protective organ of the epoch of sexual transformation, the "gateway to birth". Just as the female hymen is intended to protect women from intercourse during childhood and does not become weak and naturally breakable until the onset of puberty, so too is the "gateway to birth" an organ that protects against premature awakening in, and development of, the terrains of the opposite pole. But just as a child can be raped in the purely physical sense and have her hymen ruptured, so can the as-yet very immature human being undergoing the transformation of its poles likewise have its gateway to birth opened far too early by an energetic, unnatural mental intervention (seduction and other derailed, unfortunate influences from its surroundings in a primitive and immoral environment). It then begins to think and experience through the functions of the opposite pole at a time when these functions are still very immature and do not have a normal carrying capacity, quite apart from the fact that the same new and prematurely introduced sphere of interest cannot possibly exist except at the expense of the as-yet not-outlived functions of the ordinary pole. Here there then arises the sexual invalidity that manifests itself in the form of sexual abnormalities, perversities, sadism, exaggerated femininity in men and exaggerated masculinity in women, as well as all the other sexual derailments and the ensuing mental states that more or less turn their originators into psychopaths, simpletons and the mentally disabled. All these occurrences can thus, as mentioned above, be traced back to a far too premature, and therefore unnatural, opening of the gateway to birth in the psyche of the beings concerned in a previous life.
