The sexual principle is a principle of hunger and satiation
1904. Just as every other organic function in the living being manifests itself as an organic hunger and satiation, so too does the great sexual principle manifest itself as an eternally alternating hunger and satiation. Indeed, it is, so to speak, the main stem of the very principle of hunger and satiation, while all other forms of manifestation of hunger and satiation are merely branches on this primordial stem. Thus we know that the foundation of life for the masculine being is the satisfaction of its hunger for sexual release with a being of the opposite sex, just as the same is of course the case for the feminine being. Here the foundation of life for this being is the experience of life that culminates in sexual release with a masculine being.
