1919. With regard to the act of sexual release, it constitutes the very greatest sensation, indeed, is the very culmination of the feeling of pleasure or bliss. In plant beings this act is as yet an unconscious, weak feeling of pleasure that is triggered automatically in the plant being's instinctive, initial, weak, embryonic physical existence. Among the lower species of animals the sexual drive evolves more and more so as to become an automatically recurring desire that requires satisfaction just like the hunger and thirst for food and drink. But this satisfaction is the most fundamental one and constitutes, as previously mentioned, the very greatest pleasure in the being's experience of life. The animal's physical reproductive ability is automatically connected to this desire. It has its seat in a special set of organs through whose glandular functions the life-promoting substances or secretions are made. In the animal this drive towards hunger and satiation is thus maintained or promoted purely automatically through the sexual desire generated by the sexual organs. This desire is felt as a longing for a particular feeling of pleasure or enjoyment of bliss. This enjoyment of pleasure or bliss can here be attained through a connection with a being of the opposite sex and thus constitutes one-poled sexuality. Since the masculine principle dominates here, it is the male beings that take the lead and whose drive is the most active. Because of the functioning of its sexual glands, an irresistible desire for or attraction towards sexual contact with a female being develops within the male being. When it is successful in making this contact with a female being – a being that is normally filled with a corresponding desire for sexual contact with a male being – this contact gives rise to a feeling that is unparalleled. It is a culmination of delight, not merely purely bodily but also mentally. The being is enveloped in a real, culminating state of light until the mutual, physical, sexual contact or act between the parties has provided sufficient satiation of the sexual desire that gave rise to the act.
