1924. But this basic energy is not enough to create the conditions for a living being's existence. The feeling of pleasure would mean nothing if it could not form a contrast to other feelings. The living being's structure and appearance are therefore not merely an activity of a sexual organ but are thus also at the same time determined by the activities of other organs. Of these the next is that which is expressed through the activity of reason and which has its seat in the organism's brain and nerve organs. The energy that is dominating or decisive here is thus that of intelligence. But the organs of intelligence cannot live as independent organisms. They therefore also constitute merely a province in the same organism as the sexual organs. But here it is the energies in the spiral's fourth kingdom that are the prevailing factor. In the same way the basic energy from the third kingdom in the spiral makes its presence felt. This energy is neighbourly love, that is to say, the "energy of feeling" mixed with so much automatically working energy of intelligence that it always shapes the being's sympathy for other living beings so as to give it such a humane force that the being would at all times rather suffer than create suffering for these other beings. This cultivated or perfected energy of feeling or mental state is the same as love. This energy forms the cosmic link between physical and mental or spiritual existence. It can reach its absolute culmination on the physical plane and here turn the physical being into the most perfect being that exists on this plane. We have before us in such a culminating being of love the perfect or finished human being, the human being in "God's image". And the zone of existence or the mental sphere that comprises these beings' lives and consciousness constitutes the real human kingdom. And this kingdom is thus the last sphere of life in physical matter. It will therefore likewise be the last kingdom in which reincarnation occurs.
